Class Purposes:Prepare the pronunciation of your own autobiography

               Identify some ICT tools related to pronunciation improvement.

 

Basic Information:

There  are a lot of ICT tools that can help you improve your pronunciation of  the  foreign language. Some online dictionaries like Wordreference or Cambridge, give you the opportunity  to listen to  pronunciation of every word listed on it. Google translate also pronounces the sentences you write on it.  

Today, I will  briefly  explain  how  to  use an interesting site that will surely  let  you  improve  your pronunciation. This site has a voice simulator  software  that  pronounces not  only  words  but  also sentences; furthermore,  it  gives  you the phonetics  transcription  of  the  sentence, according  to  the  International  Phonetic  Alphabet (IPA) that we  will be working next term.

tophonetics.com is an online site that translates English texts into its phonetics transcription;  You  can  also choose between British and American pronunciation;  you  just have to type or paste the english text you want to pronounce and then you click the “Show transcription” button. That's all!

Class Activity:

1. Enter the  website tophonetics.com  and copy or paste every sentence  you composed in your

   autobiography (10th week class activity) in  the  box;  then click on "show transcription"

   button.

​

2. Once  you  get  the  phonetic  transciption  of  every sentence, carefully look at it and

   design a poster, drawing  the "strange" symbols you saw.

​

3. Listen to the pronunciation of the sentences and repeat them aloud.  

   Note: Using earphones let you listen better.

 

4. Record a voice note with the right pronunciation of  your autobiography.

   

5. Send the voice note and the phonetic symbols poster to your teacher´s mail before Monday,

   May 11th.

6. Use the following parameter to name the poster's picture file:

   GROUP_LAST NAMES_CLASS#_POSTER; for example: NOVENO1_ESCOBARGIL_CLASS3_POSTER

7. Use the following parameter to name your autobiography voice note file:

   GROUP_LAST NAMES_CLASS#_VOICE; for example: NOVENO1_ESCOBARGIL_CLASS3_VOICE
