Performance Indicators: Writing short texts in English integrating basic  writing elements.

                        Involving  yourself  in  conversations  and / or discussions about 

                        previously broached class topics.

 

Class Purposes: Identify some ICT tools related to pronunciation improvement.

                Prepare the pronunciation of the 12th week exercises. (last class exercises)

               

 

Basic Information:

There  are a lot of ICT tools that can help you improve your pronunciation of  the  foreign language. Some online dictionaries like Wordreference or Cambridge, give you the opportunity  to listen to the pronounciation of every word listed on it. Google translate also pronounces the sentences you write on it.  

Today, I will  briefly  explain  how  to  use an interesting site that will surely  let  you  improve  your pronunciation. This site has a voice simulator  software  that  pronounces not  only  words  but  also sentences; furthermore,  it  gives  you the phonetics  transcription  of  the  sentence, according  to  the  International  Phonetic  Alphabet (IPA) that we  will be working next term.

Well!  Let's start.

tophonetics.com

tophonetics.com is an online site that translates English texts into its phonetics transcription;  You  can  also choose between British and American pronunciation;  you  just have to type or paste the english text you want to pronounce and then you click the “Show transcription” button. That's all!

Let's see this simple process in this short video:

 

 

 

 

Class Activity:

1. Enter  the  website  tophonetics.com  and  copy  or  paste the exercises of the 12th week 

(last class activity) in  the  box;  then click on "show transcription" button.

2. Once  you  get  the  phonetic  transciption  of the exercises, carefully look at them and

   design a poster, drawing  the "strange" symbols you saw.

3. Listen to the pronunciation of the sentences in the exercises and repeat them aloud.  

   Note: Using earphones let you listen better.

 

4. Record a voice note with the right pronunciation of  the exercises.

   

5. Send the voice note and the phonetic symbols poster to your teacher´s mail before Monday,

   May 18th. 

6. Use the following parameter to name the poster's picture file:

   GROUP_LAST NAMES_CLASS#_POSTER; for example: ONCE3_SÁNCHEZVANEGAS_CLASS4_POSTER

7. Use the following parameter to name your exercises voice note file:

   GROUP_LAST NAMES_CLASS#_VOICE; for example: ONCE3_SÁNCHEZVANEGAS_CLASS4_VOICE
